On the outside of Goa Kiskendo, there are reliefs depicting the legendary ancient story of the Ramayana. The cave has beautiful stalactites and stalagmites which are formed naturally by water droplets from the bowels of the earth.

It was first discovered in 1820 and was used by hermits at that period to seek inner calm. Then in 1964, this cave was opened to the public as a tourist spot of special religious interest for asceticism. In 1979, the Yogyakarta Special Region Provincial Tourism Office started to begin a further development into a mainstay tourist attraction in Yogyakarta.

There are 17 plots of land for residents around the cave were purchased by the government as a follow-up to the development of this tourist attraction and in 1979 this tourist attraction was officially managed by the Yogyakarta Provincial Tourism Office.
